Amicus Corporate Social Responsibility

Amicus has been around for over 11 years now and we’re doing well. We’d like to share our success around a little bit and give a little back to those less fortunate than ourselves, so over the last few years we have been increasing our involvement in fundraising and supporting charities that are dear to our hearts.

Although we have contributed to fundraising for many charities, there are a few that we have created a bond with, both as clients and friends, and have involved the whole business in supporting them year on year.

Amicus is Latin for Friend, and that’s the way we operate both internally and externally. The staff are passionate about the causes we support and it provides a welcome addition to our positive culture and team morale.

Our Charities

Amicus Support local charities in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.

The team at Amicus have been volunteering their time to feed the homeless and less fortunate at the Loaves and Fishes restaurant run by Rev. Bill Crews’ Exodus Foundation for X years. A team of six give up half a day every 2 months to prepare and serve food, as well as deliver the food and toiletries collection that we have running in the office. Amicus have been working with Exodus to update the restaurant and contributing their work at cost.

ILSC Language Schools have been a valued client of Amicus for several years and we are currently creating their new fit out in Melbourne after completing the Sydney fitout in 2015.

Amicus chose to sponsor their Learn to Earn programme which provides young girls based in India an in-depth course in English as well as additional workshops that prepare them for the workplace, including resume writing, interview skills, and financial literacy.

Access to quality education in India is universally seen as “the passport out of poverty,” and since half of India’s population is under the age of 25, this has become more important than ever in determining India’s destiny.

We were over the moon when 2 of our sponsored students sent us this thank-you video:

Love For Lachie

Love For Lachie

The ‘Love for Lachie’ fundraising group has been established in memory of Lachie Muldoon who passed away in 2015 from an aggressive form of brain cancer.

Close to the heart of Amicus, our joint CEO’s son and Lachie had been best friends for 18 months. Lachie and Sam went to the same school and played cricket together. They shared a deep love of sport, and therefore James Kemp has been supporting the charity with the help of the Amicus team since 2015.

James Kemp is on the committee for the Love for Lachie Foundation and works close to Lachie's parents to help establish a long term vision for the "Love for Lachie" foundation. By sponsoring a charity golf day, selling raffle tickets and raising money from a car rally, Amicus supports the ongoing research of Associate Professor Kerrie McDonald, the Cure Brain Cancer Head of Biomarker and Translational Research at UNSW.

The team in the Amicus Victoria are proud to take part in the Run for the Kids each year. Besides the great bonding and team camaraderie, they get to raise money for the biggest fundraising contributor for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal. To date the event has raised over $12.4 million dollars for the appeal.

Oz Harvest

Oz Harvest

Amicus Brisbane QLD participate in the only food rescue organisation in Australia collecting surplus food from all types of food providers including fruit and vegetable markets, supermarkets, hotels, wholesalers, farmers, stadiums, corporate events, catering companies, shopping centres, delis, cafes, restaurants, film and TV shoots and boardrooms.

OzHarvest is the first perishable food rescue organisation in Australia that collects quality excess food from more than 2,000 commercial outlets and delivers it, direct and free of charge, to more than 800 charities. We provide much needed assistance to vulnerable men, women and children. Amicus Brisbane staff look forward each month to helping Oz Harvest.

Fare Share

Every year, two million Australians will experience hunger. But, over the same period, we’ll also waste 200kg of food for every man, woman and child in the nation.

By rescuing surplus, quality food from supermarkets, farmers and other businesses and with the help of volunteers, FareShare cooks this food into 25,000 free nutritious meals a week for Victorian charities – such as soup vans, homeless shelters, food banks and school breakfast programs.

The Amicus Victoria team lend a hand in the cooking of these meals in Australia’s largest charity kitchen based in Abbotsford. It’s a great opportunity for us to get out of the office, to do something that we feel passionate about and we certainly have some fun along the way. The last time we volunteered we made over 400 sausage rolls!
